Bermuda Significant Sporting Events Suggestions

IslandStats.com
www.islandstats.com is suggesting that some Sporting events can be delayed before being canceled.

We know the Government has already decided to cancel the Bermuda Day Celebrations, however a rethink can take place.

The Bermuda Day Half Marathon, Sinclair Packwood Memorial Cycle Race and the Junior Classic could be held on Friday September 4th, with the Bermuda Day Parade taking place later in the afternoon with a title “A SALUTE TO THE ESSENTIAL WORKERS’.

The Significance of Cup Match is one that should not be lost, Cup Match could be delayed until September 5th & 6th, the Saturday and Sunday before the Labor Day Holiday.

Making this switch will not be the first time that Cup Match was held earlier or later in the year than usual, as our fore founders saw the importance in still having the event.

Other than the first ever match the earliest that Cup Match was played was June 27th & 28th 1927, with the latest occasions the Classic was held August 10th & 11th 1916.

The Edward Cross Long Distance Race and the Fitted Dinghy Race should be held on the inaugural Mary Prince Day 2020, both events have been running for years and with Bermuda’s Long History with Sailing it would be significant that both these events remain on a Holiday.

Eastern County can be moved to August 22nd, September 12th and September 26th as they are Saturdays, the matches are not played on Holidays and it would keep with the tradition of allowing all three challengers a chance to play a game and with this year’s games at Sea Breeze Oval, it is believed it can be accomplished.
