Surrey 2nd XI will have to battle if they are to come away with a result on the third and final day of their 2nd XI Championship match with Delray Rawlins and his Sussex Teammates.
72 from Freddie van den Bergh and 67 from Euan Woods helped Surrey to 282 from their first innings, 128 behind the opening total of Sussex. There was then enough time left in the day at Hove for the hosts to reach 188/4 and put them 316 ahead in the match.
Beginning the day two wickets down, Scott Borthwick and Woods put together a solid partnership for Surrey before Borthwick was eventually dismissed for 42 and then Woods followed shortly after.
Under 18s stars Nathan Tilley and Sam Hall provided some company for van den Bergh, who also took five wickets on the opening day, before lower order contributions of 18 and 14 from Miles Richardson and George Barlow respectively helped Surrey along to their final total.
With almost an entire session remaining in the day, Sussex set about scoring quickly but a pair of wickets from Richardson and one each for Brad Currie and van den Bergh slowed down the hosts before they ended the day on 188/4.
