A 2016 Christmas Message from Michael A. Weeks, Shadow Minister of Community Affairs and Sport.
“Bermuda, this has been a year of triumphs and trials.
As a sporting community, we have experienced many highs and lows. Whether it was Lamont Marshall’s winning of the 2016 Bermuda Day Marathon, Nahki Wells and his fantastic year at Huddersfield Town, the PHC Zebras and their league highs, Former Heavyweight Champion - Clarence Hill named in Bronze on the Olympic Wall, Nikki Bascome’s outstanding boxing career, Flora Duffy being crowned Women’s Athlete of the Year locally and World Triathlete Champion, Deondre Morris becoming a Muay Thai Champion or Bermuda’s National Cricket team not winning a promotion, this has nonetheless, been a great year for Bermudian’s in sport.
To those sporting personalities and clubs, both locally and abroad, I encourage you to continue to promote good sportsmanship and excellence on and off the ‘field of play’. To those of us who stand on the sidelines and cheer, let’s continue to support our athletes and teams positively.
Remembering always, that there is another generation of sportsman watching in the wings!
On behalf of my wife and our family, we wish each of you a Safe and Happy Holiday and a Prosperous New Year. PEACE!”
