This newly established annual award is made possible through the collaborative efforts of Southampton Rangers Sports Club and Ace It Foundation (AIF).

The award will provide a young Bermudian male the opportunity to volunteer in Ghana, West Africa with AIF.

AIF is a registered charity in Ghana co-founded by Bermudian Quinton Sherlock Jr. and his friend Nicolo Catto.

The aim of the charity is to empower disadvantaged young people through education and sports.

Sherlock said, “With this award we also intend to acknowledge the accomplishments of Ed Sherlock and preserve the legacy of Alanzo 'AJ' Parsons.”

Ed Sherlock is a champion half-marathon runner. Through hard work and discipline, he was able to win the Bermuda Day Half-Marathon a total of six times. His record of five consecutive wins (1959 - 1963) still stands! He is also a staple in the Southampton community having worked many years at Southampton Rangers Club.

At the age of 84, Ed Sherlock will run in his final 24th May race. What better way to go out, then by playing a major role in offering young Bermudians an opportunity to travel to Ghana, West Africa.

“Ed Sherlock is a true champion as he continues to give back to the community,” continued Quinton Sherlock.

Alanzo 'AJ' Parsons, now deceased, was a promising young football player. His life was cut short when he collapsed while playing a match for his team C.F.C. in the United States.

Alanzo’s footballing foundation was set at Southampton Rangers, representing the club at the Junior levels, he later moved to Devonshire Cougars and was invited to be a part of the National Junior Training Academy.

Alanzo went on to earn a spot on the Bermuda National Under 17 & Under 20 teams.

Quinton Sherlock went on to say, “Alanzo was a fine example of a scholar-athlete, he was dedicated on and off the pitch. We hope his legacy will serve as an example to others.”

The Ed Sherlock / Alanzo 'AJ' Parsons Award will be given annually to a Bermudian male. He will spend 10 weeks in Ghana, West Africa volunteering with AIF. His role will be to tutor Middle School Children in basic English skills and assist with SNAG activities.

The award recipient will have his airfare, accommodations and basic meals covered.

Southampton Rangers has assembled a team to join Ed Sherlock in his final 24th of May race.

Quinton Sherlock concluded, “We are taking pledges to raise funds towards the award. All donations will go directly towards sending a Bermudian male to Ghana, West Africa.”

The Ace It Foundation will also host a Golf Tournament at the Ocean View Golf Course on May 22nd, the format is a 2-Person Captains Choice.
