Omar Hayward traveled to Montreal to compete in the BISFed World Open Boccia Competition, where approximately 90 Elite Athletes from 15 countries competed in a bid to gain valuable world ranking points.

Competing in the BC1 Division, Hayward finished with a record of 1 win and 3 losses, Hayward won a total of 13 points, while his opponents overall gained 25 points.

In Game 1, Hayward got off to a dream start recording a 6 – 1 win over German Calderon from Chile, however Hayward fell 11 – 0 in his second match to Cornelius Oatis from the USA.

Hayward fell to 1 & 2 after he went down 8 – 3 to Dongwon Lee from Korea, and then his last game went down to a nail bitter as Hayward was leading 4-2, but Wonjong Yoo from Korea scored three points in the last end with one ball left to throw in which he secured the winning point.

Sara Corday a Boccia Bermuda Director said, “Hayward has great potential in this sport and we predict that it won't be long before he is on the podium. We have to keep in mind that this is only his second tournament. He is dedicated and practices for hours every day.”

“We are very proud of Omar's accomplishments for Bermuda and we look forward to future tournaments,” concluded Corday.
