POSTPONED BFA MATCHES LEAVES MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS
Bermuda Football Fans have been left fuming over the last minute cancellations of at least two Premier Division matches yesterday.
Players from both teams were on the field ready for kick off at Southampton Oval and the Somerset Cricket Club, when Bermuda Football Association contacted match officials informing them to postpone the matches.
The match featuring the Boulevard Blazers and Devonshire Colts was called off because of what was deemed as an unplayable pitch, however although conditions were bad at both Somerset Cricket Club and Southampton Oval the fields was deemed playable.
Fans are questioning the rules as to when and who controls matches being canceled or even called off:
When does the club turn the field over to match officials? Who then has the authority to call a game off? How much time should be given before a match is called off? How come the other matches subject to the same weather? Did the BFA consult the match officials at Somerset Cricket Club and Southampton Oval about conditions? Where in the BFA’s status states matches involving promotion and relegation must take place at the same time?
One email to www.islandstats.com questioned, if all three matches had started and weather then conditions prevented one match from being completed would the other two matches have a no result?
If two of the matches were stopped then what?
If the field in Somerset was playable and the field in Southampton was playable and the officials had started the matches, would the Bermuda Football Association call and ask for those games to be halted?
