The Bermuda Cricket Board President Lloyd Fray has responded to a question put to him by www.islandstats.com in regards to a Suspended Country (United States of America) from the ICC allowed to still be involved and host Caribbean Premier League matches.
Fray said, “We understand that the ICC recognizes the enormous cricketing and commercial potential of North America and is keen to grow the game in these markets. We are aware that subsequent to the suspension of USACA as governing body of cricket in USA that ICC management have been working to establish a short and medium term development plan and governance structure in USA that includes all stakeholders. Unfortunately for Bermuda, and other countries with smaller populations, the current ICC development focus, which we are vociferously advocating against, is on a small number of targeted countries. However, the upside to this is that Bermuda can certainly benefit from any further development in US cricket. Having the largest nation in the Western Hemisphere increase its cricketing footprint and development, can potentially give Bermuda the much needed exposure and access to playing more high level games. We do know there is a distinct advantage for cricketing countries with conducive geographic proximities, that benefit from both financial and development of any sport.”
