Following her Record Breaking Performance last night Jessica Lewis’ name is bouncing around the Country.
Lewis set a New Parapan Games Record during her Gold Medal performance in the T53 Women’s 100m race taking an 8 year old record off the books previously held by Anjali Forber-Pratt of the USA.
Speaking to www.islandstats.com last night Lewis’ mentor Forber-Pratt said, “I'm so proud of Jessica's accomplishments, especially tonight. She has truly emerged as a force to be reckoned with and I could not be more proud. Her performance was strong and solid right off the line and she has put Bermuda wheelchair racing on the map, she actually took the parapan and record from me, I had set it in 2007, but I knew going into the final tonight that it was highly probable she would earn that record, and I'm so happy that it has stayed "in the family" so to speak, I admire Jessica's talent and hard work so much and I could not be prouder or happier for the record to now be in her name.”
Minister of Community, Culture and Sports, Pat Gordon-Pamplin, offered congratulations to Jessica Lewis for winning the 100-metre final at the Parapan Am Games in Toronto last night.
Minister Gordon-Pamplin said, “I was thrilled to hear the news of the record setting win by Jessica at the Parapan Am Games. On behalf of the Government of Bermuda, I wish to congratulate Jessica on her outstanding and historic accomplishment. Jessica has always been an athlete to watch and now the world knows what she is capable of doing. We wish to thank Jessica for carrying the Bermuda flag so proudly. I invite all Bermudians to take time today to send congratulations to Jessica and wish her all the best in the 400-metres event tonight.”
The Minister added, “We are rooting for all the Parapan Am athletes who are competing in the Games. We are extremely proud of our Bermuda Team. I also wish to send special thanks to all family and friends who are in attendance and supporting our athletes. Go Bermuda!”
