Denton Hurdle Awards 2015 Winners

Maya Palacio won the Senior School Girls Division. The CedarBridge Academy student represented her school in a host of sports. She was a member of their Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Softball, Cross Country, Track and Field and Badminton teams. Her passion however is in Field Hockey. Palacio is a member of the Longtails Field Hockey Club and is a current member of the Senior Women’s National Team. She was a member of the team which represented Bermuda at the Central American and Caribbean games in Mexico in November of last year.

Honorable Mention in the Senior School Girls Division went to Faheema “Kyrah” Scraders from The Berkeley Institute.

The Senior School Boys Division was won by Liam Evans from Saltus Grammar School. Evans is a current member of the Robin Hood Football Club in the Premier Division as well as the Under 18 National Football team. Evans was also invited to train for the Senior National Team in the lead up to the just concluded World Cup Qualifying campaign. Evans in a prefect at Saltus, as well as house captain, he has maintained headmaster honor roll status throughout his years in senior school. Evans achieved 9 GCSE passes and completed 5 advanced placements courses.

Honorable mention in the Senior School Boys Division went to Jah-Ni Perinchief from CedarBridge Academy.

All-rounder LeiLanni Nesbeth won the Middle School Girls Division. Nesbeth keeps busy in representing Saltus in Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Cricket, Cross Country, Football, Softball, Swimming, Track and Field and Volleyball. She has remained on the school honor roll since joining Saltus.

Honorable mention was awarded to both Brijette Basden of T.N. Tatem and Jya Ratteray-Smith from Sandys Secondary Middle School.

Jaiden Manders from T.N.Tatem Middle school was the Middle School Boy’s winner. Manders has remained on the honor role since attending Tatem and is school Prefect and House Captain. His talents lie mainly in Football and Cricket where he led Tatem in very successful campaigns during his three years there.

The honorable mention recipients in middle school were Jayden Ming from Warwick Academy and Jalun Hassell from Sandys Secondary Middle School.

There was a tie in the Primary School Girls Division. Jade Johnson from West Pembroke and Che’-Chulae’ Dowling from Purvis Primary will share this year’s honors.

Johnson is well known on the local running scene but she made significant contributions for her school in Football, Cricket and Netball as well, the Prefect and House Captain has won the KPMG Front Street Mile for the last three years. She has also won a slew of races including the Princess to Princess, Around the grounds, Women in Sport 5k and Little Girl’s Rock Mile. Dowling is Deputy Head Girl, Prefect and House Captain at Purvis. She has represented Purvis in Track and Field, Field Hockey, Football, Cricket and Softball. She also find the time to volunteer at Windreach and Spicelands and is and avid participant in the local Equestrian events.

Honorable mention was awarded to T’aja Williams from East End Primary and Jerzi Trott-Riley from West End Primary.

William Nokes from Saltus Grammar School and Eijaz Shakir from Purvis Primer won the Primary School Boys award. Nokes is House Captain and Captained the Football and Rugby teams this year. He also participated in Cricket, Track and Field, Swimming, Tennis and Softball. He also loves to play Golf and Baseball outside of school. Shakir is the Deputy Head Boy and House Captain at Purvis Primary. The regular honor student has won four first place awards at his schools science fairs and has been enrolled into the Department of Educations Gifted and Talented Education programme.

Honorable mention was awarded to Sam Williamson from Warwick Academy and Khazi Sealey from Elliot Primary School.
