Gladwin Phillips "Sensei Roots" promoted the 20th Edition of his Karate Tournament at the Pembroke Sunday School, with most Junior categories subscribed, although only Dominique Brown achieved a Triple first place by entering all three Divisions of Forms, Weapons and Sparring.
The Forms Grand Champions were Daniel Lee in the Novice Boys Division, while Justin Ebbin was the Intermediate Boys Division winner. Rhianna Pitcher took the honors in the Novice Girls Division, while Ryley Mason was the Intermediate Girls Division title holder and Troy Brangman took the honors in the Black Belt Men’s Division.
Sensei Roots expressed his appreciation to his own sensei, GM Skipper Ingham, and took the occasion to celebrate Ingham’s upcoming 85th birthday. The Shotokan Karatedo School received a $200 prize from the tournament for entering the most competitors in the event. Ingham also presented Phillips with his Hachidan certificate, or 8th degree Black Belt.
