Ilkeston FC are offering opportunities for up to 20 youngsters to join their development squad, which is attached to the club’s thriving Academy.
The development squad, based at Ilkeston, follow the same work programme as the full Academy squad. Students spend their time developing their football skills while also studying for BTEC qualifications that could lead to a career within sport.
Said general manager Nigel Harrop: “The development squad acts as a feeder system to the full Academy and any youngsters who prove themselves able to make the step up will get the chance to do so.
“As a club we are firm believers in the principle that some youngsters develop later than others and we give second chances to those who have been rejected at an early stage in their careers by League clubs.
“It’s also key to the success of our Academy that we give a high priority to the educational training and our track record working in partnership with SR Education is there for all to see.”
Applications to take up a scholarship opportunity with the development squad should be made by Friday August 15. They can be made by email to academy@ilkestonfc.co.uk or by writing to The Education Manager, Ilkeston FC Academy, New Manor Ground, Awsworth Road, Ilkeston DE7 8JF.
Trials will take place at the New Manor Ground at a date to be confirmed following receipt of applications
Applicants should note that it’s a requirement to achieve five GCSE passes to study the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport.
Applicants who do not achieve five GCSE passes at C and above may be considered for the Level 2 Diploma in Sport.
