Recently, 25 young gymnasts from Notts and some other local clubs, attended a two hour training session, with Claire Starkey and the Elite Girls which included Bermuda’s Sadia Wilson.
The session, aimed at younger gymnasts was a great success and gymnasts left having thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to train with both Claire and the Elite girls - Ellie Downie, Wilson, Jess Coombs and Katy Bramley. There was a huge excitement and buzz around the training session, following Ellie and Claire's recent trip (and success) to Sofia for the European Championships and Ellie kindly showed the girls her European medals haul - including her Gold for vault!
Gymnasts started off being introduced to all the elite gymnasts and then moved to the floor. The girls started off with a warm up working on conditioning, with elites helping the girls with important elements such as splits, bridges and press ups. This was followed by a dance to 'Blurred Lines', to show off their ballet moves!
After that, the girls had the opportunity to move around the different apparatus, working with a different elite gymnast each time. This meant every gymnast had the chance to work with each elite. Starkey was on hand to offer advice and coaching throughout and providing top tips that every gymnast needs to know!
The session ended with the chance to gain autographs and photos along with the girls receiving a goody bag with key ring, certificate, stickers and post cards, as a keep sake of the event.
