Germany's Martin Kaymer clinched his second major title and first US Open after a dominant start-to-finish victory at Pinehurst and book his ticket to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda.
For Kaymer, it was the second Major Championship of his career. His first came in the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits. With the victory, Kaymer claimed the second spot in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, joining Masters Champion Bubba Watson Octtober 13th – 15th, at Port Royal Golf Course.
Kaymer shot a final-round 1-under 69 to finish at 9-under 271 total, good for an eight-shot win over Erik Compton and Rickie Fowler.
Kaymer absolutely dominated the competition at Pinehurst No. 2 throughout the U.S. Open. He jumped out to a six-shot lead through 36 holes after back-to-back rounds of 5-under 65. With those matching 65s, Kaymer became the first player in major championship history to open with two rounds of 65 or better.
On the weekend, the closest anyone would get to Kaymer would be within four shots.
This will mark Kaymer's second trip to Bermuda in four years. In 2010, he tied for third with then U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features a $1.35 million purse, with the winner receiving $600,000, second place $300,000, third place $250,000 and fourth place $200,000.
