Clyde Best misses out yet again, after being told by Government Officials, that something is being worked on for the Football Legend who is recognized for his accomplishments by every other Country except the one he was born in.
On several occasions former Premier Craig Cannonier would respond to questions regarding Best from www.islandstats.com that something was being worked on and would happen very soon, but we have had another Queens List revealed and yet again the one name that many would want to see is missing.
Back on January 2nd this year, frustration mounted in the Sporting Community after the release of the Queens New Year’s Honors List, as not one Sports Person was recognized.
In 2009 now Speaker of the House Randolph Horton, also a Former Sports Minister, said some people did not understand what an impact Best made playing for West Ham alongside legends such as World Cup winners Geoff Hurst and Bobby Moore - both of whom were Knighted.
He said famous black players who followed Best into the English game - John Barnes, Cyrille Regis and Viv Anderson among them - would all cite the Bermudian as their inspiration.
While making his speech Horton was getting support from both sides of the House, yet nothing was done during the remainder of the PLP’s tenure of Government and nothing has been done during the current administration which is the One Bermuda Alliance.
We sought to find out just why neither then party has addressed the issue, we asked Premier Craig Cannonier and Acting Opposition Leader Derrick Burgess the question as to why?
