The Bermuda Gymnastics Association announced 1976 Olympic Bronze Medalist and 2000 Olympic Team coach Peter Kormann is to Bermuda this week.
Peter Kormann is a retired American gymnast and gymnastics coach.
In the 1976 Olympics, Kormann became the first American to Medal in competition against the Soviets when he won a Bronze Medal in the Men's Floor competition, Bermuda’s Clarence Hill also won a Bronze Medal at the same Games.
Kormann competed for Southern Connecticut State University under coach Abie Grossfeld. In 1977, Kormann won the Nissen Award (the "Heisman" of men's gymnastics). Kormann was selected in 2000 to be USA's Olympic coach for the Men’s Gymnastics team.
Amanda Baughman the Bermuda Gymnastic Association’s Assistant coach said, “This is Kormann's first visit to Bermuda and he will be spending time with our up and coming gymnasts at the National Training Center, St. David’s. He will also be meeting with our competitive team parents this evening (Wednesday, at 5:30pm) to discuss his experiences as a gymnast, coach, and gym owner, as well as answer any questions. His connection to Bermuda comes from his brother-in-law, Duke Nelligan, the head coach of Bermuda's national team.”
