Former Manchester City striker Shaun Goater insists his old side can mount a serious challenge for an unprecedented quadruple this season. Click Read More to watch the SkySports Interview.

In an interview with SkySports.com, Goater believes Manuel Pellegrini is helping the players to enjoy themselves and it's paying dividends in front of goal.

Goater, who scored 103 goals in 202 games for City between 1998 and 2003, believes Manuel Pellegrini's ability to rotate his squad on a consistent basis will be the main factor in their favour during the second half of the campaign.

City took their goals tally for the season to 103 in all competitions after their 4-2 victory over Cardiff and the Bermudian can see no realistic threat as they continue to battle on all fronts.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Goater, who four times topped City's scoring charts during his stay at Maine Road, said: "It is realistic to talk about all four competitions, because they are still in all four competitions.

"I can see that Manuel Pellegrini is really giving this a go by the way he is rotating his squad at the moment.

"He has asked the players to believe in his philosophy and they are doing it for him week in, week out. They are creating loads of opportunities and the strikers are certainly taking them.

"He made seven changes for the recent game against Blackburn. Normally when a manager makes so many changes the form drops a little.

"But the lads he is bringing in just keep the team on the same level and he is so fortunate in terms of the quality of players he has.

"When they are called up they actually produce quality football to a quality standard and that will be the key.

"Obviously they have some tough games coming up now, especially the Champions League game against Barcelona, but I can see City winning that one.

"Barcelona are beatable at the moment. There are still a couple of weeks to go before the game but I think we would be favorites to go through."

Asked if Manchester United's title defense was over, Goater, who joined the Old Trafford club as a teenager, said: 'Yes'.

"After the 3-1 defeat at Chelsea they now have too big a gap to make up. It is just too much for them now."
