Jermal Woolridge scored a 1st Round Knock-Out over his Brazilian opponent during the 1st Brazil International Wushu Championships.
Woolridge landed a huge overhand right, with his opponent hitting the canvas hard, he tried to get up but legs were like jelly forcing the ring judge to call a halt to the fight.
Garon Wlkinson said, “It was so awesome to see Woolridge on top of the podium and hear the National Anthem, actually it’s the first time it has been played for the Bermuda San-Shou Association”.
Meanwhile Wilkinson performed Gunshu (staff) in the morning finishing in 5th place to go with his 5th in Changquan (open hand).
Wilkinson unfortunately pulled out of Daoshu (broadsword) as he felt some pain in his groin muscle.
Wilkinson said, “I definitely could have finished the routine but decided it was not worth it since this is only a warm up for the World Games. Mission accomplished though.”
Wilkinson concluded, “I landed a few elements that I was having trouble with at home so the extra floor time has paid off. A couple days of rest Woolridge and I should be ready to go.”
