The last time Mark Phillip’s University of South Carolina Beaufort (USBC) Men's Golf team hosted a tournament, they made sure the first-place trophy stayed at home.
They're on the brink of doing so again in the Sand Shark Classic.
The seventh-ranked USCB men fired rounds of 294 and 295 at Chechessee Creek Club and will carry a two-shot lead into the final round of the Sand Shark Classic. USBC lead Shorter and Coastal Georgia by two shots, and they're five shots ahead of Sun Conference rival Webber International.
Phillips led the way for USCB, posting rounds of 71 and 73 on the par-70 Ben Crenshaw layout. Phillips is in third place, four shots behind Shorter's Ethan Lambert and one shot behind Webber International's Tom Gamble.
Travis Cashion also is in contention for USBC. He's tied for fourth at 6-over 146, seven shots off the lead.
