The Bermuda Lacrosse Association played the second game of the 2009 Dark n Stormy Champions Cup.
The game saw the return to action of a number of the Bermuda National Under 19 members as they were back for spring break. Tyler Masters, Tucker and Cortland Moore and James Chiappa combined to elevate the level of play on the field.
Spectators were witness to a defensive clinic put on by both teams, as the Rangers only managed 1 goal in the first half. Buoyed by an own-goal when Bernard Asirifi mistakenly swept the ball through the Rum’s keeper Andy Soucie, the end of the first half saw a lowly score of 2-0 in favor of the Rangers.
The offensive wheels started to roll at the start of the second half, however, when Ken Winford quickly gave the Rangers a 3-0 lead with an assist from Barry Lohan off the opening faceoff.
That would be all the offense for that side as the Runner’s defense of Joel Schaefer, Asirifi, and Brian Gavini clamped down to thwart all attempts while their offense went to work.
Rick Fields started the scoring for the Rumrunners in the second half, and in quick succession he helped bring them back to tie the game with only a few minutes left to play with a couple of goals and assists.
Kirk Bridgewater sealed the deal by scoring the final goal of the day to put the Rumrunners up, 4-3, and draw the series to even.
