James & Cipres to Feature in France Competition

For the second year in a row, the South Pole rink will host France's International Figure Skating and Ice Dance Competitions.

This competition will take place from November 23rd to 25th. This world stage is part of the ISU Grand Prix (International Skating Union).

The best skaters in the world will be present, such as Olympic vice champion Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, as well as Bermuda’s Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres, who are the Bronze Medalists at the 2018 World Championship.

Bermuda Inside Sports Talk Radio LIVE 12:15

Inside Sports Talk Radio will air on www.islandstats.com today Monday September 17th at 12:15pm.

This Live Radio Sports Talk Show is hosted weekly by Ian Rawlins and co-hosted by Earl Basden will be in studio.

Arnold & Hopkins Conclude at the Collegiate Championships

Gabriella Arnold and Kaden Hopkins concluded competing at the USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships.

Arnold is representing Marian University, while Hopkins is representing Fort Lewis College.

Arnold finished 5th competing in the Women’s 500 Time Trial Final - 1.5 Laps stopping the clock in 38.659.

With a time of 1:06.754 saw Hopkins finish 9th in the Men’s KILO Time Trial Final - 3 Laps.

Hopkins helped Fort Lewis College finish 5th competing in the Co-Ed Team Sprint Final - 2km - 6 Laps, they clocked 2:14.285.

BFCA Goalkeeper Course Underway

The Bermuda Football Coaches Association, in conjunction with their coach education partner, The Scottish Football Association have their Goalkeeper Coaching Course well underway.

Under the watchful eye of Jim Stewart who worked as a youth GK coach for the Scottish FA (SFA) before he joined the Scotland National Football team setup under Gordon Strachan in 2013 on a part time basis.

The BFCA participants are taking the SFA Level 1 and Level 2 goalkeeper courses.

“The Level 1 course aim and objective is to provide a basic introduction to the needs and demands of a goalkeeper and a goalkeeping coach. Focusing on the basic principles of the position and fundamental movement patterns of a goalkeeper incorporating the core skills and techniques of the position. It is targeted towards coaches who have an interest in developing young goalkeepers. There are no admission criteria or pre-requites as this is an entry level course.

“The Level 2 course aim and objective is designed to assist coaches, aged 18 or over, who develop goalkeepers. The course is based on five themes (shape, movement, positioning, distribution, and crossing) and is designed to give coaches the ability to coach the goalkeeper both technically and tactically via game related practices. It is aimed at goalkeeper coaches working in clubs and builds on the fundamentals learned in the Scottish FA Level 1 Goalkeeper Award. In order to be considered for the Scottish FA / Level 2 Goalkeeper Course, candidates must have completed the Scottish FA Level 1 Goalkeeper Course within the last 3 years, and also must complete the Children’s Wellbeing in Scottish Football online module approximately 45 minutes.

More Vandalism at the Netball Courts
More growing frustrations as Netball Courts at the Bernard Park been the target of vandalism yet again. This time it is of a racial tone, with homophobia context.

Slanderous words have been painted on the courts and now it is being dealt with by both the Bermuda Police Service and the Department of Youth and Sports.

A Police spokesperson said, “Sometime overnight a vandal yet again defaced the surface of the Netball Court on Dutton Avenue in Pembroke in an act of willful damage with the suspect(s) writing offensive language. Police have commenced an investigation and we are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have any information that may lead to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect(s) to contact police on 2950011.”

Jekon Edness the Senior Sports Development Officer for the Department of Youth and Sports said, “The Department is looking to have additional lights and cameras erected at the facility, but he is unsure if that would even stop the vandalism.”
