Bermuda Win World Cup Qualifying Group 3

Bermuda’s Under 20 Women’s National Team 2 Dominican Republic 2

The Bermuda’s Under 20 Women’s National Team’s advanced from Group 3 of the Caribbean Football Union U20 World Cup Qualifiers.

Bermuda kicked the game off at the Panamericano Stadium in San Cristobal, with the match played at a high tempo and Bermuda dominated the game from the first minute.

In the 22nd minute Eva Frazzoni won a tackle with the left back and raced down the right side of the field before putting in a pinpoint pass to Aaliyah Nolan who fired one time past the on rushing Dominican Republic goalkeeper.

Bermuda continued to control the match but the Dominican Republic team was equally up to the task. In the 44th minute captain Kali Lespere fell victim to an asthma attack and was unable to recover and was replaced by Sideya Dill.

Bermuda finished the half leading 1-0.

Bermuda started the second half just as they did the first half, and in the 48th minute Nolan was brought down just outside the area and Teyah Lindo stepped up to take the free kick.

It was a well taken free-kick which forced the keeper to make a great save. The result was a corner kick that Nolan than turned provided as she sent a spectacular cross to the far post for K’shaela Burch Waldron to head in from close range to give Bermuda a 2 - 0 lead.

In the 65th minute Deshae Darrell was replaced by Symira Lowe-Darrell and three minutes later Dominican Republic pulled 1 back.

In the 82nd minute Eva Frazzoni was replaced by Taznae Fubler in an attempt to close the game out. However a defensive mix up allowed the Dominican Republic to score an equalizer, however the Bermuda team stayed in the match and saw it to the end.

National Coach Naquita Robinson said, “The girls played extremely well and maintained a level of professionalism even when the scores were tied. They played with pride and showed great determination. I am very proud of this team and look forward to the next round. They made Bermuda very proud. The real work starts now as the next round will be much tougher. However I have every confidence they will be up to the task. Thank you Bermuda for supporting US. We Love you.”
