The 2023 Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships wrapped up today in Santo Domingo with Charlotte Millington winning Bermuda’s Second Medal of the weekend.
Finish third in the Juvenile Women Category Road Race, Millington earned her second podium performance of the two-day competition after yesterday’s Gold in the Time Trial. Millington was clocked at 2:07:20, and her teammate Skye Fergusson finished in fourth place clocking 2:12:55.
In the Junior Men’s category Cameron Morris and Thomas Quarterly looked to close out their Junior Cycling careers on a strong note. Quarterly pulled out of the 90-kilometer race feeling unwell in the heat of the midday sun, while Morris finished a strong 9th place in a highly competitive field.
Left to fend for himself without a teammate, Morris was in the main peloton while a quartet of riders from Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico battled for the top steps.
Team managers Wenda Roberts and Peter Dunne expressed their confidence that Bermuda’s junior riders remain highly competitive in the region and will continue to turn in podium performances for the foreseeable future.
“Our success here this weekend is a product of our development plans and the commitments of Millington, Fergusson, Quarterly and Morris. They have shown what can be achieved by committing to the program and the inspiration that comes from racing for Bermuda”, said Dunne.
