Yushae DeSilva-Andrade and Omar Hayward both earned Silver Medals at the World Boccia Challenger event in Santiago, Chile.
DeSilva-Andrade and Hayward both went down in their Gold Medal matches.
Hayward lost 9 - 0 to Eduardo Sanchez from Mexico. He got off to a bad start with his opponent scoring 5 points in the 1st round and was never able to recover. However, to his credit, he bounced back well and was very competitive in the remaining 3 ends.
DeSilva-Andrade had a close match against Ailen Flores, former world number 1, from Argentina losing 5 - 3.
Flores executed the big shots when she needed to and made it difficult for DeSilva-Andrade to score by blocking the jack.
Coach Troy Farnsworth said, “DeSilva-Andrade and Hayward should be very proud of their efforts. Winning 2 Silver Medals is a fantastic accomplishment and a testament to the many years of hard work they have put in to the sport. They will now compete in Fortaleza World Boccia Cup in Brazil in September and the Parapan Am Games back in Santiago in November.”
