The event welcomed the delegations of the 41 participating countries including Bermuda and the more than 3,500 athletes from all corners of America.
“The day we have been waiting for so long has arrived. And the truth is that there is a lot of excitement and eagerness for this party to begin”, said Neven Ilic, president of Panam Sports.
After the first artistic painting, the one corresponding to the Afro heritage, the parade of athletes representing the 41 sports delegations that will compete in the Games entered the stadium, with Bermuda led by Swimmer Myeisha Sharieff and Archer Jaydon Roberts.
Both were excited and honored to lead the Bermuda team in the inaugural Junior Pan Am Games.
Chef de Mission Julia Hawley said, "I can’t be more pleased with the pair, they did a tremendous job, and now we turn our attention to competition."
