Butterfield Wins Ironman Cozumel

Bermuda Olympian Tyler Butterfield crushed the second half of the run to take the lead and the win at the 2019 Mazda IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel.

Butterfield put together an amazing performance on his way to the win.

Butterfield came out of the water in 7th place 22 seconds behind the leader Brent McMahon, Butterfield clocked 25:06, with McMahon was clocked at 24:44.

Thru the 9.5K Bike Split, Butterfield had moved up to 4th, but McMahon had increased his lead by 7 seconds over Butterfield. When the 56-Mile Bike ride was finish, Butterfield was in 5th. He was 6:28 behind the new leader Rodolphe Von Berg.

Thru 5.2k of the run course, Butterfield had cut the lead of Von Berg by 3:02 and he was in 4th, Butterfield would be in 2nd after 10.55K in the now only 1:56 behind the leader.

Butterfield would be able to overtake Von Berg and run to victory clocking 3:50:22, Von Berg was second in 3:52:21 and finishing third was Michael Weiss who was clocked at 3:53:38.
