Bermuda’s Junior National Champion Matthew Oliveira sporting the Bermuda Hot Tubes Jersey during the Junior Tour of Ireland.
Oliveira was the 38th rider off the Start Line in the Time Trial.
Oliveira crossed the line in a time of 8:16.39, which put him in 6th place out of the 122 competitors.
Oliveira’s teammate Magnus Sheffield is the first yellow jersey wearer after being clocked at 7:54.52.
Sheffield is only a first year junior and therefore is now leader of the white jersey classification as well.
Oliveira said, “Today was a great start for me, there were 122 riders from all countries sending some of their best teams, I finished 6th in the first of six stages. Today was the time trial, testing the individual speed and power of each rider as these are individual efforts. I am sitting well, with my team mate in the lead. My job along with the rest of the team is to protect his lead. I want to win some stages and take the points jersey which is given to the rider with the most points from Hugh placed finishes across the stages.”
“The races average a length of 110 kilometers and it will test the endurance and stamina of riders. I think I should fare well against the competition as I have had some good training and racing leading up to this race,” concluded Oliveira.
