Flora Duffy & Tyler Smith Speak On Performances

IslandStats.com
Both Flora Duffy and Tyler Smith had a fantastic day of competing, with Duffy winning the World Triathlon Series event in Hamburg, Germany and Smith finishing 10th in the Pan American Championships.

Duffy said, “I really actually can’t believe it. Coming into the third race I felt a lot of pressure, especially it being a sprint and in Hamburg, I have not raced here in years. So, I just really had to go for it, I tried to race fast from start to finish and I had to make the most on the bike because I knew that my run pace speed was not at the same level as some of the top runners are, so I just took a chance and luckily it worked out.”

“I came out of the swim a little further back than I wanted to so I just really hammered the first part of the bike and I knew the chute was quite technical so I knew if I just hammered that into transition I would be ok. We were able to breakaway three of us, we were working ok, I was getting a little frustrated though so I thought I would attack and go solo and that ultimately made the race for me.”

With his accomplishment of finishing 10th, Smith has qualified for the Junior Elite World Championships in Rotterdam in September 2017.

Speaking with www.islandstats.com, Smith said, “I'm really pleased with my performance today in Magog. A top 10 had been my target, so to achieve that, and guarantee a start position at the World Championships in Rotterdam in September is something I'm really happy with.”

“I had a strong Swim and Bike, and was able to push the pace and take control of the race in the bike pack, leading the race into the second transition,” continued Smith.

Smith went on to say, “I lost just under a minute to the leaders on the run, but still recorded a 5K Triathlon best time of 16:11. “Having now qualified for worlds I will be able to return to training in Leeds to totally focus the rest of the season on a good result at worlds,” concluded Smith.
