Tough day at the office for the Bermuda Team at the 12th Wushu Worlds Championships going on in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Sentwali Woolridge and Khalid Pitcher both had Quarter-Final match-ups.
Woolridge fought a tough match against Shen Li from China but went down 2 rounds to 0 and Pitcher suffered a loss against the reigning silver medalist from the last world championships and current World Cup Champion Abdelhamid Elsayad from Egypt.
Garon Wilkinson said, “To top it off, I just could not get it together for what I feel is my strongest event, daoshu (broadsword). In the warm-up I realized that competing 3 days in a row had taken its toll on me. I just didn't have it. To top it off my handle for my sword fell off right at the end of my routine. A whole point deduction!!! Just one of those days but proud of what we have done.”
The Bermuda San Shou President continued, “To have 2 fighters make the Quarter-Finals is incredible. Just thinking back to our first Worlds back in 2007 when a victory was just out of the question. We've come so far in such a short period of time. Now it’s up to Jermal Woolridge to bring home the Gold.”
