BBA Announce Venue Change for National Crit Championships

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA) announces changes to the National Criterium Championships scheduled for Sunday, July 3rd, 2022. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Criterium Championships will now be held at the St. David’s Motor Sports Park.

“The Criterium Championship is the final event in the CG Insurance Bermuda National Cycling Championships Series,” says Debbie Titterton Narraway of the BBA. “Due to a large number of road works projects and events happening on Island, a suitable closed-circuit course was not able to be secured for Sunday.”

“With many of our international riders on the island seeking the championship title, it was important for us to find an alternative location to host Sunday’s criterium events”, shares Narraway. “We are extremely grateful to the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Association for enabling the BBA to utilize the racing track at the Bermuda Motorsport Park”.

“Criterium racing, or a Crit, consists of multiple laps around a closed circuit racing (laps usually 1-2km in length) with a specified time frame”, continues Narraway. “Crits tend to be more intense and faster requiring a different set of skills primarily based around cornering, positioning and sprinting, providing a great spectator opportunity.”

“Before the Championship categories get underway, the BBA is hosting free, fun races for riders age 11-14 years; this is a great opportunity for the younger cyclists to try their hand at racing”. Note all riders must be comfortable and confident with going fast, riding in a group and cornering.

With a location secured, registration is now open on the Race Day World website. Outside the hotly contested Open, Junior and Masters Championship categories, there are FREE races for youth riders 11-12 years of age and 13 - 14 years of age. Advanced registration is necessary for all categories.
