Kaden Hopkins and his Essax teammates competed in the Spanish Cup Cycling Series Beasain 121.0 km Road Race.
Hopkins turned in a good performance overall clocking a time of 2:54:37 crossing the line 75th.
Hopkins was the first Essax rider to cross the line, following the race Hopkins told www.islandstats.com, “I tried to get in the early breakaway today following the moved that had 3 or 4 boys of Lizarte and Euskadi.”
Hopkins continued, “They are 2 of the biggest teams on this circuit, in one of the breaks I took a pull and looked back and I was alone, I tried a similar move in the Dominican Republic where I went alone.”
“I was away for about 15 km before I was caught, then I went straight back into the front,” continued Hopkins, “I was strong during the first 3 climbs, but the 4th was 20% gradients for the first 300m and I could not follow the front boys.”
Hopkins went on to say, “I ended up in a group of about 20 guys and when we arrived at the last climb, the group exploded and I went away with the first 5 or 6 guys, I finished 6 minutes down, but I felt very good today.
Hopkins concluded, “I was able to be in the front all day until I was dropped. I finally feel I’m on the right path so hopefully, the news will keep getting more exciting.”
