Hopkins to Compete in Classic City of Torredonjimeno

IslandStats.com
Kaden Hopkins and his Equipo Essax are set to compete in the Classic City of Torredonjimeno 2021.

The first 20 kilometers will lead the cyclist leaving north of Torredonjimeno through a terrain in continuous descent, returning towards the central town of the test after passing through Escañuela, through a much more demanding area, which can already serve to see the first escape attempts, before passing through the finish line, which will be on this occasion Meta Volante (km 44). For the next 60 kilometers if the escape has already achieved some distance, there will surely be a small truce, before the war starts with the arrival at the highlight of the day. Several challenges without excessive hardness will have to face in this part cyclists, taking on the climb to Alcaudete, where will be the first Special Sprint of the day (km 82), the most interesting point of this equator of the test.

Upon entering the town of Castillo de Locubín will start the 20 kilometers in which usually the men who will have the title stand out, with the ascent first to Alto de Locubín (1st category, km 108.1), and its more than 8 kilometers at an average of almost 6%, but with several whole kilometers to 8 and 9%,and ramps shortly before crowning that reach 11% unevenness, which makes for its summit already reach a very selected group. After a very fast and short descent, without a flat meter in between, cyclists will link with the climb to Alto de Valdepeñas (2nd category, km 120.4). It is one of the most demoralizing ascents that passes the Competition of the Spanish Cup, with a road in perfect condition that houses three lanes and that from the first meter is already observed in the distance an end, which seems never to reach. In total it is 3.5 kilometers without a single flat meter and with the slope at all times ranging from 7 to 9%,which added to that it is usually here where the hardest attacks of the day occur, make this high one of the most suffered and feared of the year.

After a twist and narrow descent, after passing through the Special Sprint of Los Villares (km 135.4), these new last 33 kilometers will be faced, passing through the provincial capital, Jaén, where the last Flying Goal of the day will be located (km 144.8). On paper, that final part will be even tougher than meets the last few years with the race heading towards Torredonjimeno through the town of Martos. Already at the same exit of Los Villares you will have to face a hard ascent towards the Mirador de Jabalcuz, with 3 kilometers to almost 6% of average slope, which can be an ideal place to break the race between those who have passed in the head the infernal duo of Locubín-Valdepeñas, emulating what happened last year by Abner González, Byron Munton and Reuben Thompson.

Once Jaén has crossed, the race will spin in search of Torredonjimeno through Torredelcampo, running for a last 20 kilometers dotted again by a couple of repechos that may end up being decisive. The finish line, located in its traditional place on Avenida de Jaén presents a slight slope since entering the town, which adds some agony always to that resolution of the race, either because some runner can go ahead with a small advantage or if a small group plays victory to the sprint.
