To celebrate Black History Month, the Caribbean Women's Cycling is honoring their very own Bermudian road cyclist Zoenique Williams.
Williams, a 30 year old Bermuda Police Officer, started cycling in 2012 in order to get fit. Her funniest moment on the bike occurred at about this time. Whilst riding up hill, she realized she wasn't going to make it all the way up, forgot to unclip and tumbled right off her bike, luckily she didn't let that put her off cycling and two months later she competed in her first race.
She has not looked back since, races at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2014, Island Games and Pan American Games in 2015 followed. Her biggest achievements have been two Silver Medals in the Road Races at the Caribbean Cycling Championships in 2013 and 2014.
Williams is not long back on her bike after taking a break following the exertions of the Pan American Games. She is already in the swing of things and is currently in Florida. Her favorite part of the day is training in the early mornings with her team mates, the camaraderie and fresh air set her up for her busy day ahead.
She would recommend cycling to everyone, young or old. "It keeps me sane", she said.
