With weather that could not have been more opposite the last time competitors of the Bermuda Bicycle Association’s Cycle-Cross raced at Astwood Cove when the rain came sideways, the glorious sun made racing no easier for the competitors.
Repeated sharp turns and energy sapping grass to keep the tempo constantly changing, Matthew Oliveira took the overall win ahead of a resurgent Deshi Smith and Mark Hatherely.
Dominique Mayho pulled out after three laps, having misjudged the same downhill hairpin turn each time, sending him into and beyond the boundary tape.
In the Women’s category, Alyssa Rowse took the win over Tristan Narraway and Joanne Medeiros. Both Rowse and Narraway caught and passed several of the Male competitors, giving them strong performances despite the small numbers in their own category.
In the Under 15 race, bothers Manning and Gordon Smith finished 1 and 3 with Ahajai Smith between them for second.
