Digicel Announce Sponsorship of Mayho

IslandStats.com
Digicel Bermuda announced its continued support of 21-year old Bermudian cyclist Dominque Mayho. Digicel first sponsored Mayho in 2013, soon after he won the Bermuda National Road Race Championships and the May 24th Sinclair Packwood Memorial Road Race.

Digicel’s renewed sponsorship will assist with Mayho’s overseas traveling and training costs. He departs for an intense training and racing schedule in the USA, Belgium and Canada.

“Digicel is pleased to witness Mayho’s transitioning to racing and training abroad,” said Alistair Beak, CEO, Digicel Bermuda. “Digicel remains committed to Mayho’s success and we continue to build on our partnership. We have great belief that Mayho will be catapulted to the next level of his career.

Mayho’s exposure overseas will allow him to race against tougher opposition on a regular basis. From early March to April 13th, Mayho will train and race in California, before moving on to Belgium from April 15th to May 25th and he will finish up in Canada May 26th through June 16th.

During his time overseas, we will be watching his race results carefully. His achievements this summer will determine his next steps, as Mayho’s ultimate goal is to ride professionally. His raw start to riding was on a BMX bike when he joined a school cycling programme run by Peter Dunne of the Bermuda Bicycle Association.

He soon became accustomed to a road bike, winning junior races on island and was quickly collecting various awards and accolades. Since then Mayho has been riding for six years as a cyclist with Team Madison. Last year, he represented Bermuda at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and finished as one of the top competitors from the Caribbean Region in both the Time Trial and Road Race.

“It’s been a great journey for Mayho so far and this overseas experience will allow him to spread his wings and race frequently abroad, ” said Phil Trussell, Co-Founder of Team Madison. “Hopefully this new chapter takes him to the next stage of his career.”
