Bermuda Swim Team IslandStats.com The Barbados Aquatic Sports Association (BASA) is awaiting approval from Government to go ahead with the CARIFTA championships slated for next Easter here.
Newly elected president of BASA, Lady Forde said a proposal and protocols have been submitted to the COVID-19 Monitoring Unit and it is now up to health authorities to grant permission for the event to take place from April 3rd to 6th.
Ben Smith Bermuda National Swimming coach said, “At this time I have no idea how we will be able to travel to the event. Taking a team there safely and keep everyone virus-free would be a challenge.
Many of the other countries are not at the level of testing as Bermuda and some have not been able to train.
With the new reduced gathering size, it is difficult to train together and impossible to compete.
As of today, I can’t see it being a wise choice to go ahead with the event.”
