Upon reflection Elan and Elijah Daley provided Bermuda with 11 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals during the recently concluded 2018 CARIFTA Swimming Championships held in Jamaica.

Elan Daley won 11 Gold Medals in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m Freestyle, the 50m and 200m Backstroke, 50m and 100m Butterfly, as well as the 50m Breaststroke closing out with the 200m and 400m Individual Medley. Elan also broke 7 CARIFTA Games records during the 50m, 100m, 200m Freestyle, 50m and 200m Backstroke as well as the 50m and 100m Butterfly.

Elan assisted winning a Silver Medal in the 13/14 Girls 800m Freestyle Relay and a Bronze Medal in the 400m Medley Relay races.

Elan won the CARIFTA Games 2018 High Points Trophy and the FINA High Points Trophy in her Age Group.

She also won the CARIFTA 2017 High Points and FINA High Points Trophy at her first ever CARIFTA and was thrilled to have had the opportunity to compete at the CAFIFTA Games again. She credited her dedicated training to her coaches in Bermuda and Canada and to her family for her achievements.

Younger brother Elijah won a Bronze Medal in his first ever CARIFTA final, the 200m Breaststroke race, and a Silver Medal in his last race of the meet, the 200m Backstroke. He was most proud to swim "up" with the big boys in the 13-14 Freestyle Relays.

Elijah, new to international competition, had only hoped to make finals and was delighted that he was able to apply the grit and determination necessary to Medal for Bermuda. His only disappointment was that he was not able to contribute more to the formidable older boys’ Bermuda relay team of, Brian Desmond, Jack Harvey and Sam Williamson.

The two Daley’s, together with older brother Ethan, are looking forward to training hard in the coming months and hope to be able to contribute to the outstanding team that Bermuda National coaches Ben Smith and Richard Goodwin have cultivated.
