Bermuda Olympic hopeful Lisa Blackburn was only 1.7 seconds away from the Olympic B Standard when she finished the RBC National Bahamas Swimming Championships Girls 15 & Over 100 LC Meter Breaststroke with a time of 1:11.92.
Blackburn was back at the Betty Kelly-Kenning Aquatic Centre Pool in the Bahamas, the same pool she and the rest of the Bermuda team will compete in the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships.
Blackburn who has been an inspiration to many not just the sport of Swimming was feeling down but said, “And this is why you should always press on, rise above and never-say-die... If I had gone home (like I really wanted to yesterday), I would have been a quitter, but now I can say that I raced to the fastest time I have swum all year! It is also the fastest time I have done in the past 4 years.”
Blackburn concluded, “So lesson learned…again…always stay the course and believe in yourself! Now I am looking forward to racing at CISC next weekend where I hope to improve my time yet again.”
