Five Harbor Swimmers Compete in Canada

Five swimmers from the Harbor Amateur Swim Club, led by Head Coach, Shona Palmer, competed at the MAC April Invitational.

Evan Farrow, Jack Harvey, Jude Moseley, Brett Smith and Zebedee Wakely made the trip in hopes of reaching qualifying standards for CISC and Canadian National Age Groups, which occur in late June and July.

The team got off to a strong start in the Boys 12 and Under 400m Freestyle with Harvey taking first place in a Personal Best time of 4:57.85.

The competition brought more excitement for Bermuda as Harvey went on to win another Gold Medal in the Boys 50m Backstroke in a time of 35.27. Harvey then finished 5th in the 12 Year Old Boys 200m Freestyle.

The Preliminaries brought some important races for the boys in the 13 and Over Age Group. Farrow went out strong in the 200m Freestyle in a Personal Best time of 2:07.32 in the Boys 15 and Over Age Group, just outside of a CISC Qualifying Time.

As one of the youngest in his age group, he missed the final after having had a very strong prelim race. Mosely, Smith and Wakely competed in the 14 Year Old Boys 200m Freestyle where they all made Finals with Smith finishing 12th with a Personal Best time of 2:11.81, Moseley finished 13th with a Personal Best time of 2:12.19 and Wakely finishing 17th with a Personal Best time of 2:15.22, his first AA time standard since he began swimming only two years ago, bringing him closer to CISC Qualification.

The next race up for the Boys was the 50m Backstroke where Moseley and Smith Qualified for finals. Smith took second place, achieving his 2nd Qualifying Time for CISC in a Personal Best time of 30.39 while Mosely took 14th in a Personal Best time of 34.41. Smith finishing 8th in a Personal Best time of 35.91 in the 50m Breaststroke.

Harvey got Silver Medal in the 12 Year Old Boys 100m Backstroke with a time of 1:15.38 and captured sixth place in the 12 Year Old Boys 50m Freestyle in a Personal Best time of 30.44. Farrow, again, one of the youngest competitors in the Boys 15 and Over Age Group, turned out a very strong 400m Freestyle where he swam a Personal Best time of 4:30.48, finishing 30th, while Mosely and Wakely went on to finish 17th and 18th in the 14 Year Old Boys 400m Freestyle in times of 4:52.69 and 4:54.34 respectively.

The finals brought on some real excitement in the boys 14 Year Old 50m Freestyle where Mosely placed second in the B Final with a Personal Best time of 27.01, his first CISC Qualifying Time. He finished second to fellow National Team member, Ethan Daley. Smith finished 6th in the B Final in a time of 27.81. The event finished on a high note with a First Place finish by Smith in the 100m Backstroke in a Personal Best time of 1:04.96.
