Two more of Bermuda Olympic hopefuls, Rebecca Heyliger and Roy All Burch took to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre 50m Pool during the 2016 Canadian Olympic & Para Swimming Trials.
Heyliger finished 8th in Heat 5 of the Women 50 LC Meter Freestyle Preliminaries touching the wall in a time of 26.62 to finish in the Swim-Off B Final 22nd spot. Heyliger is just .45 of a second behind the 2016 Olympic Qualifying Time Standard for Women’s Freestyle.
Heyliger got another shot to reach the qualifying standard when she competed in the B Final, she finished 10th touching the wall in a time of 26.68.
Burch touched the wall in 2nd place during Heat 3 of the Men’s 50 LC Meter Freestyle, Burch’s time of 23.78 saw him finish 38th overall, Burch was just .73 of a second over the 2016 Olympic Qualifying Time Standard time for the Men’s 50m Freestyle of 23.05.
National coach Ben Smith said, “Burch showed improvement. This is his fastest swim since the injury. His start and first 35 meters were very strong but he didn't hold it. This is encouraging as he expected to be at his best by Charlotte Ultra Swim. Heyliger was within 3 hundredths of her best swim. She has a strong swim but needs to hold tempo through the scone phase of the race.”
