3 Gold & 2 Records on Day 1 of Carfita Swimming Championships

At the conclusion of Day One of the Carifta Swimming Championships in Martinique saw Bermuda pick up 3 Gold Medals and 2 new Carifta Records. All eleven members representing Bermuda saw action during the morning session on Day One.

But in the evening was when the Medals were won, Emma Harvey picked up the Carifta Gold Medal during the 13-14 Women’s 50m Backstroke her time of 30.43 also saw her pick up a New Carifta Swimming Championship Record.

Madelyn Moore won the Gold Medal in the 15-17 Women’s 50m Backstroke Final, Moore clocked a winning time of 30.72.

Harvey picked up her second Gold Medal and recorded her second Carifta Swimming Championship Record of the day when she won the 13-14 Women’s 100m Butterfly touching the wall in a time of 1:03.50.

Logan Watson-Brown competing in the 11-12 Women’s 50m Backstroke Final finished 7th with a time of 34.28.

Sam Williamson finished 5th during the 11 – 12 Boy’s 200m Breaststroke Final, Williamson touched the wall in a time of 2:57.20.

Earlier in the day, Sam Williamson has advanced to the 11 – 12 Boy’s 200m Breaststroke Final after he recorded the 5th fastest Qualifying time of 2:56.53.

Madelyn Moore will enter the 15-17 Women’s 50m Backstroke Final as the favorite after she touched the wall with the fastest time in the Preliminaries of 31.00. Emma Harvey will also be the favorite in a final after she clocked the fastest 13-14 Women’s 50m Backstroke Preliminary time of 30.37. Logan Watson-Brown will take her spot in the 11-12 Women’s 50m Backstroke Final when she clocked the 8th fastest qualifying time of 34.02.

Emma Harvey will also be the favorite in a second final after she clocked the fastest 13-14 Women’s 100m Butterfly Preliminary time of 1:04.12.

Shannon Hassell missed out on a spot in the 15-17 Women’s 50m Backstroke Final when she was clocked at 32.22 that saw her finish 14th overall. Jessica Bruton clocked a time of 36.76 during the 11-12 Women’s 50m Backstroke Preliminaries finishing 17th overall.

Jack Harvey finished 10th in the 11-12 Boy’s 50m Backstroke clocking a time of 34.04, Williamson finished 16th overall touching the wall in a time of 36.30.

Clocking a time of 1:08.49 saw Vanessa Esposito finish 11th during the 15-17 Women’s 100 Butterfly Preliminaries, during the 15-17 Men’s 100m Butterfly Jesse Washington finished 15th touching the wall in a time of 59.77. Brian Desmond and Jack Harvey finished 18th and 19th respectfully during the 11-12 Boys 100m Butterfly Preliminaries, Desmond clocked 1:18.95 and Harvey clocked 1:20.74.
