2016 Schroders Spring Championships Round Up

The 2016 Schroders Spring Championships Swim Meet held over four days at the BASA Pool will be remembered for several reasons and one of the biggest reasons will be the fact that 19 records fell including one that stood for 29 years as Bermuda Olympian Jenny Smatt was onhand to witness Elan Daley break her record she set in 1987. The meet also saw the participation of swimmers from Cayman Islands.

Smatt took some time to have a chat with this young blossoming star swimmer.

Over the Meet, Madelyn Moore setting a new record in the 50m Freestyle, her time of 26.07 gives her a new 15-16 Girls Age Group Record, a new National Record and a BASA Pool Record, the National record was held by Keira Aitken since 2009.

Ethan Daley competing in the 13 – 14 Boy’s 1500m Freestyle where he broke Jason Mastalir’s time set in 2005 of 17:42 with a time of 17:13.21. Elijah Daley was also a record breaker with his 10 & Under Boys 50m Backstroke performance lowering the record held by Keagan Woolley from 36.34 to 36.13.

Ethan Daley broke his own 13 – 14 Boy’s 100 IM record from 1:06.85 to 1:04.32, while the Sharks 11-12 Girls Relay team of Elan Daley, Mia Ferguson, Jessie Bruton, Logan Watson-Brown set a new record in the 4x50M freestyle, They lowered the record from 2:04.39 to 2:01.65.

Moore took the 15-16 Girls 100m Freestyle record from Vanessa Esposito, the record was 59.77 and the new time is 57.43. Jesse Washington lowered his own Boy’s 15 & Over record in the 100m Freestyle from 52.41 to 51.92.

Shannon Hassell swam 2:23.72 in the Girls 15 & Over 200m Backstroke breaking Rebecca Sharpe’s time of 2:26.99 set in 2007, Moore broke another Vanessa Esposito record in the Girls 15 & Over 50m Butterfly lowering the time from 29.77 to 29.04.

Washington broke his own record of 26.75 in the Boy’s 15 & Over 50m Butterfly clocking 25.88, Moore then broke Ashley Yearwood’s record time of 30.75 in the Girls 15 & Over 50 Backstroke set back in 2011, with her time of 29.72.

Jack Harvey broke the 11 – 12 Boys 200m Backstroke record with a time of 2:32.50, the previous record had been held by Brett Smith with 2:34.25. Imojen Judd broke the Girls 8 and under 50m Backstroke record with a time of 43.49 taking the record of 43.87 from Elan Daley.

The Sharks 11-12 Girls Relay team of Elan Daley, Mia Ferguson, Jessie Bruton, Logan Watson-Brown set another new record in the 4x50m Medley, they lowered the record from 2:23.94 to 2:20.28.

Washington broke his own record in the Boys 15 & Over 200m Freestyle swimming 1:54.67 which lowers his record of 1:55.88 and then Elan Daley broke one of the longest standing records for Bermuda Swimming. Her time of 35.77 lowered the record from 36.22 that was set in 1987 by Bermuda Olympian Jenny Smatt.

Ethan Daley lowered his own record in the 13 – 14 Boy’s 200 IM from 2:17.53 to 2:17.07. Washington’s boys 15 & Over 100m Butterfly time lowered his own record of 58.57 to 58.39 and he is already under the 17-18 record before he moves to that age group later this year. Washington then lowered his own Boys 15 & Over 50m Freestyle record from 24.12 to 24.08.
