Yearwood Reflects on Weekend Performance & Career

IslandStats.com
Ashley Yearwood achieved a remarkable accomplishment over the weekend representing Denison University, Yearwood has reflected on her weekend and her career at Denison.

“This weekend was both a mentally and physically challenging and rewarding weekend. The conference meet is always exciting because you get to see people swim faster than they ever have before,” said Yearwood.

Yearwood went on to say, “For me, my highlight was winning the 100 Backstroke, in high school you only need to have two main events and for me, those were the 50 and the 100 Freestyle, so coming into college I didn't really have that much experience outside of Bermuda competitions swimming any other races. When I got to university finding a third race meant choosing between the 100 Backstroke and the 100 Butterfly because I was mediocre at best in both of those events. Choosing the 100 Backstroke, a race I had only broken a minute in once before my first NCAC Conference meet freshman year seemed to be the less painful option.”

“I guess saying all this is important because winning the 100 Backstroke, a race I have come 3rd and 2nd in at previous conferences, at my last conference meet showed me what all the years of dedication and hard work really do for you in the sport. Going from mediocre to first in the conference really just proves how valuable challenging and pushing yourself can be. It speaks to the high level of training partners I have with me at Denison and the training I receive through the program,” continued Yearwood.

Yearwood concluded, “We also won both the 200 and 400 Medley Relays which is something that we haven't be able to accomplish over my for years at Denison. Those victories make me very excited to see what myself and my team can accomplish in a month at my last NCAAs. This meet was just a step toward our NCAA goals.”
