Bermuda had a full weekend of Swimming, Ashley Yearwood competed for Denison University, Julian Fletcher and Rebecca Heyliger competed at the US Winter Nationals and in Bermuda there was the Three Days of the Winter Age Group Championships.
www.islandstats.com asked Olympian Roy-Allan Burch his thoughts on Bermuda Swimming and his very own recovery progress.
“The future of Bermuda swimming looks great. Bermuda has never had a problem producing great youngsters who have made an early impact on the sport. Our job is to make sure they have the opportunity to continue to succeed and grow in the sport.
With Julian Fletcher, Rebecca Heyliger and myself still continuing to push ourselves in the sport it allows for more information to travel to our younger swimmers. We have access to the latest and greatest training techniques which we can pass down to our younger swimmers to adapt early in their career. Bermuda swimming has never really had swimmers continue into the sport professionally and give back new training methods and workout styles in order for the next generation to succeed. We are not only on a pursuit to fulfill our dreams, we are also bridging the gap between age group, college and professional swimming.
My legs are doing really well. They are getting stronger every week and my ability to perform exercises and perform better in the water is consistently increasing. I do have a lot of work to do but I feel good about where I'm at now. The main thing I need to do is make sure I get enough rest. I used to have the tendency to overwork myself but now I have to listen to my body otherwise I could make mistakes that can't be fixed.”
