Day Two Carifta Swimming Championships 2015

The 30th Carifta Swimming Championships continued in the Barbados with several Swimmers winning Medals taking Bermuda’s Medal count to 15, Personal Best Times, Age Group Records, National Records and Pan American Games Qualifying Times met.

Finals

The 200m Freestyle started the evening with Madelyn Moore and Ashley Irby in the 13-14 Girls Age Group, Moore took it out strong and lead the race until the last 10 meters where she was caught and finished with the Bronze with a new Age Group Record of 2:12.15.

Ashley Irby clocked a time of 2:18.15 finishing in 8th place. In the 15-17 Girls Age Group race Vanessa Esposito finished 5th touching the wall in a time of 2:11.66 to claim a new Age Group record. Jesse Washington and Tyler Mazurek had a Bermuda battle to the finish where Washington finished 5th in 1:58.02 with a new 15 – 17 Boys Age Group record and Pan Am B Time, while Mazurek finished 6th with time of 1:58.12 also under Pan Am B standard.

During the 13-14 Girls 50m Butterfly saw Moore and Emma Harvey at it again with another 1-2 finish with Moore winning the Gold this time and Harvey winning the Silver. Moore lowered her Age Group record to 28.74 with Harvey 1 tenth behind in 28.84.

Esposito finished the 15 – 17 Girls Butterfly with a time of 29.93 to grab her second Bronze Medal of the meet, while Washington finished in 8th with a time of 26.88 during the 15-17 Boys Butterfly.

The 100m Backstroke was up next with Harvey and Moore in the final. Once again Moore had a big lead only to be caught at the finish where she place second with 1:09.27 followed by Harvey taking Bronze with 1:09.86. Shanon Hassell battled her way to a Bronze with a 1:09.32.

During the Individual Medley Emma Harvey was next where she held the lead until the Breaststroke leg. After falling into 4th place she battled back with an amazing last 50 to take the Bronze with a time of 5:24.64 which is a new Age Group Record. Last individual event for the night was Tyler Mazrek who was able to capture the Bronze Medal with a 4:48.11 which took the 17-18 Age Group and National record.

The 13-14 Girls swam their hearts out but fell short by half a second to place 4th.

In the Preliminaries the 13 – 14 Girls 400 Meter Medley Relay team qualified for the Final clocking the 5th fastest time of 4:49.46, while the 15 – 17 Boys 400 Meter Medley Relay qualified for the Finals with the 8th fastest time of 4:18.11.

Madelyn Moore and Ashley Irby both advanced to the 13 – 14 Girls 200 Meter Freestyle Final after finishing 5th and 8th. Moore clocked 2:16.03, while Irby touched the wall in a time of 2:18.01. Vanessa Esposito will be on the starters blocks for the 15 17 Girls 200 Meter Freestyle Final after finishing 5th with a time of 2:11.97.

During the 15 – 17 Boys 200 Meter Freestyle Preliminaries Tyler Mazurek recorded the 4th fastest time of 1:59.41, while Jesse Washington finished 6th clocking 2:00.51 both will be on the Final.

Moore and Emma Harvey clocked the same times during the 13 – 14 Girls 50 Meter Butterfly to finished 6th with a time of 29.87, while Esposito will compete in the 15 – 17 Girls 50 Meter Butterfly Final after she recorded the 4th fastest time of 30.52.
