Following the three days of competing in the 2014 Mailboxes Unlimited Winter Age Group Championships at the BASA Pool the coaches broke down performances.
Ben Smith, Bermuda National Coach and Sharks Swim Club Head Coach said, “Sharks coaches were very pleased with the energy of the team over the 3 days of competition. We saw 86 personal best time out of 164 swims. This shows that the training for the first phase of the season has worked and sets us up for another strong 2015. It was good to see some of our Carifta level swimmers lowering their personal best times if not getting close to personal best times. It is challenging to continue to lower your time when it is already a very fast time for your age and in many cases our swimmers did just that.
Anthony Rynne, President of the Dolphin Swim Team noted his coaches were very pleased with the many significant improvements made by our swimmers at the Mailboxes Unlimited Winter Age Group Championships and the Development meet # 3, with most swimmers dropping times, 80% of repeats were PB's. Just about everyone dropped their times in at least one of their events. Overall, the Team recorded one of the highest percentages of PB's in recent seasons.
A large batch of brand new swimmers participated in the Development meet, and the level of excitement with which they faced this unfamiliar challenge showed their enthusiasm for their new sport. The coaches hope to build on this early success, as we see what improvements can be earned in the next Sprint Meet. Most of those swimmers returning from last year were trying new events, always a good thing, and several were rewarded with the "B" times that they had been chasing. A fantastic weekend overall.
Our Coaches, all volunteers, did a fabulous job at training our swimmers for this event. The concept of consistent training and gradual progress over time paid off well this weekend.
Lorena Godwyn completed the 400 IM on Friday night in under 8 minutes placing second. The following day she dropped her Butterfly time down by 3 seconds.
Megan Lau improved her time in her 100 Butterfly Time by 12 seconds. She was First in the 100 m and 200 meter Breaststroke events by a good number of seconds.
Mikayla Kelly once again showed that smooth technique keeps you fast. She PB'd her 100 Backstroke time by almost 2 seconds and her 200 Freestyle time by over 4 seconds.
