On the First Day of competition in Doha, Qatar at the 12th FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships, Julian Fletcher swam to a new Bermuda Record in the 100 meter Breaststroke.
Clipping over a second off of the previous record held by Chris Flook set back in 1992, Fletcher looked strong throughout his swim, finishing in a time of 1:02.04.
His time saw him finish 4th in Heat 8 and 55th overall.
Coach Richard Goodwin said, “This is a superb swim for this early into a new season.”
“Having committed to the life of a professional athlete, Fletcher made the decision to go with the best Breaststroke coach in the United States, David Salo, and has moved to Los Angles to be under his tutelage full time. This has seen a dramatic shift in focus for him and he has already undergone some radical changes to his stroke technique, as well as embracing a totally different lifestyle,” continued Goodwin.
Goodwin concluded, “It has clearly born fruit and he is already looking forward to next year’s competitions, where he hopes to be able to lower his times even further.”
