The first Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association’s (BASA) Best of BEST Series event will take place on Saturday, February 1st beginning at 8:30am, to be directly followed by a development meet at 12pm at the BASA Pool.
National Coach Ben Smith said, “Even though this meet is still early in our competition season for 2014 it is a significant meet for many of our swimmers.”
Saturday’s event will be BASA’s last qualifying meet for this year’s Carifta Swimming Championships.
“We have two swimmers that have one qualifying time and simply need to reach their second time while we have several others that are extremely close in several events to hit their qualifying times, continued Smith. “After this meet is complete we will start the process of selecting the team and should have an announcement by the end of next week.”
“For some there will be the added pressure and excitement of qualification while others will continue to work on improving their swims in preparation for this year’s major meets. We will also see all the other swimmers that will be looking for personal best times and to show the improvement in their swimming honed over so many hours in the cold and rainy wintery months,” concluded Smith.
The Best of Best Shipping meet will be followed up with another development meet where the young swimmers get their chance to race and start their quest to reach the level seen in the Best of Best meet.
