Shortly before 8.00am the screams of joy echoed around the Fairmont Hotel grounds as Melinda Frith made a hole in one on the 2nd hole from 129 yards. Playing a 9 iron from the elevated tee box the ball landed on the green and tracked towards the hole.
Frith commenting on the shot said, “I just quietly watched as the ball got closer to the hole, but another player in the group Anne O’Neill was quite animated and was urging it to go in. When it finally dropped, all three of us left the ground.”
This was followed by an incredible round of 6-under par 48 by Jarryd Dillas which included 8 Birdies and 2 Bogeys!!
Dillas’ round was only one stroke off the Turtle Hill Golf Course record of 47 which was claimed by Simon Lilly in the Bermuda 3’s World Team Championship in 2018.
Dillas said, “I rode a hot putter and hitting 15 greens in regulations surely helped.”
Dillas also credited his fellow-competitor, Damian Palanyandi who pushed him throughout the round. Palanyandi who scored a 1-under par 53 was also the partner of Dillas in the Bermuda Four-Ball Championships in January in which they claimed the Four-Ball Championship title.
Laura Robinson won the Ladies Division with a round of 3-over par 57, Frith was second at 4-over par, while Katrin Burnie and Anne O’Neill both shot 8-over pars.
