The 2012 Phoenix Match Play Championships got underway today at Belmont Hills Golf Course. Play is in 2 Divisions this year, with an Open Blue Division and an Open Red Division.
The Open Blue Division sees the return of defending Champion Scott Gilbertson, who will be seeded number one. A sudden-death playoff was required to determine the medallist in the Open Blue Division after Thomas Allkins and Arriek Douglas tied for the low round with a pair of solid 73’s.
Allkins earned the Medallist honours with a par at the first playoff hole and he also takes the second seed. Douglas settles for the third seed and Mitchell Campbell, the recently crowned Bermuda Open Amateur Division Champion, takes the fourth seed with a round of 75.
In the Open Red Division, Kheary Swan stormed to Medallist honours with a superb round of 79. Dakota Lamb is the second seed with a round of 83 and Joe Waters is seeded third after an 88.
