For a second straight week on the eGolf Tour, Travis Ross of Crookston, MN will enter day two of an event in sole possession of the first-round lead. Just one week after posting a first-round 65 at the tour’s Spring Creek Classic, the former University of New Mexico standout returned to form on Wednesday afternoon, carding nine birdies en route to an 8-under 64 at the tour’s inaugural Championship at Wintergreen Resort.
The Championship at Wintergreen Resort is the 14th of 24 scheduled events on the 2012 eGolf Tour schedule, and is being contested this week at Wintergreen’s Stoney Creek Golf Club (Monocan/Shamokin) in Wintergreen, VA.
Michael Sims finds himself 10 strokes off the leader after he shot an opening round 1-over par 73 and is T56th.
Sims started out on the Front Nine and was 2-over par after the first four holes with Bogey’s on the second and fourth holes, but after four consecutive pars had a Birdie on the ninth to make the turn at 1-over par.
On the Back Nine Sims ran off four consecutive Pars, before a Bogey on the fourteenth, to fall back to 2-over par with four to go. Sims then had a Par before back to back Birdies on the sixteenth and seventeenth saw Sims at Even Par with one hole to play, but a Bogey on the par four eighteenth saw him finish 1-over par.
